No more Yayosan :( but a few upscale neighborhood markets, one near Dolores park I think, are starting to carry select products but they mainly do VIP corporate box lunch catering and upscale tours. ”

“ There is no bento better than Daily Zen Bento. Unfortunately you can only pick it up at Yayosan in el cerrito, however, it is well worth the drive. I 100% agree with the other yelper, Yoshika H., although I love bentos from Nijiya or Mitsua, daily zen bento is my favorite. They are Japanese owned and are authentic yet sometimes put a slight twist to dishes. (but not too much of a twist so it still preserves the Japanese authenticity i.e. kabocha croquettes). ”

“ I honestly haven't had a better bento (or Japanese food in general) elsewhere. I first found out about them at a grocery store in El Cerrito called Yaoya-San. I usually get the Tonkatsu Bento, and sometimes their other stuff like Dragon Roll and assorted sandwiches. They make several dozens of other items, which are all pretty good. Everything tastes fresh (i.e. the rice is actually moist and soft!), and I was able to call and pick up some orders when I made the order in advance for a party sometime ago. Highly recommended. ”

“ We ordered Osechi, Tenpura, and Onishime for 2014 year end dinner and New year breakfast. It was delicious and authentic Japanese dish taste. Onishime taste is in Western Japanese style, less salty so that we could enjoy the food, not only source/dashi. Great. We got an order issue 12/31 pickup at Cuppertino area, but co-owner(?), Emiko san resolved by delivering order from SF to my south San Jose home! It was good customer care. Food is good and customer care is good too. I will be back again. ”

“ The best bento I've had stateside. Called in to order an individual bento, and I'll definitely be returning. They have no physical space to serve food, as others have mentioned, but if you want to place a small order you can stop by to pick it up. ”

“ Love their bento! The only place you can walk in and purchase their bento is Yaoya-san in El Cerrito. Their Bryant location does not have a store front, however, if it is a few, you can call them the day in advance to order them, then pick up on the next day. They said you can even order 1 bento this way. You see a lot of Japanese bento/sushi in grocery store. Safeway and other supermarkets sushi boxes are really horrendously bad. Berkeley Bowl has pretty ok Bento (B-dama and Geta brand), Japanese grocery store like Nijiya and Tokyo fish market's are pretty good, but Daily Zen Bento really does it the best! Try it out :) I'm Japanese and pretty selective about my food (ok very selective), and I'll swear by this place. ”

“ I am Japanese and this is the place I would recommend to anyone(Japanese or non Japanese)! their food is not only high quality but also health conscious. I normally don't like brown rice(more like I hate brown rice) but their brown rice cooked in special way blew my mind. Please try! Anything from them is high quality and authentic Japanese food with California twist. I highly recommend them for your next catering occasion!! ”

“ Super excellent service as well as delicious food! They make bento that's sold at Yaoya-san Japanese grocery in El Cerrito. I called them up to order bento, and found that they make much more than what's offered at the grocery store. I had an ever expanding group of people who wanted to order bento. Daily Zen was fast, friendly, and very helpful during the ordering process. They have excellent photos on line of their bento, so it was easy to choose. And everything was so delicious! I had the almost-vegetarian Gomoku chirashi, a wonderful blend of vegetables, pickles, egg and shrimp over sushi rice. Price was good too. We picked up at their store in San Francisco and they had everything completely ready for us. ”

“ Best Bento and catering plance in San Francisco!! Very authentic Japanese taste and very reasoanble price. It was extra ++!! I had a large Makunouchi Bento. It had deep fried fish w/ tartar sauce, pork fillet wrapped bacon w/ oriental sauce, stuffed chicken breast (mushroom & cheddar cheese) with delicious tomato sauce, chikuzen-ni, Daikon radish & carrot kinpira with sesami oil, Eggplant (nasu agebitashi), Hijiki seaweed, homemade pickled daikon radish, sweet red beans, sunomono salad, and Miso marinated grilled salmon, and white rice- off course. It came with 12 " x 12 " container and price was only $18/bento. We were all happy and so stuffed!! ”
